Polling has proven to be unreliable in both the 2016 and 2020 elections, so it’s time to go to another method for election prediction.
For 2024, I decided to look at betting odds from British bookmakers. There were a few reasons for this:
- The British bettors don’t have an emotional investment in this country’s politics.
- Foreign media is more reliable than US media as to current events and what’s really going on.
- Bettors are laying money on the line. A rational bettor isn’t going to make bets that are guaranteed to lose.
The information sources I’m consulting are as follows:
- Election Betting Odds by Maxim Lott and John Stossel: This is the main source I check. Odds are up to the minute.
- 2024 U.S. President: Site is right leaning, but the data seems to be objective. This is to provide a data comparison to Election Betting Odds.
- US Election Odds - Daily Betting Updates & Tips on the 2024 race in Betfair’s Live Blog: Betfair provides market info about the UK betting markets on US elections.
- 2024 Presidential Election Odds: This site is another source for general odds. I think this site is an aggregator.
- Election Betting Coverage: I wanted a US based source that’s doing analysis to be a weight against any blind spots in the UK analyses.
- Election Betting Odds - 2024 US Presidential Election Odds: Another US based analysis to check Action Network against.
