Drake's new single
I've taken the week to fully absorb the vibe of the record. It speaks to me on many levels.
The lyrics are on point. He's expressing his hurt and betrayal in a way that's visceral.
The production was perfect for the lyrics.
The horns in the beginning are grand and sweeping, letting people know Drake still has the power. He isn't going to give up just because everyone is against him.
But, the switch up to the vocals sample (was it the Weeknd?) at the 2 minute mark shows the other side of the coin. It starts with him trying to be hype. But then Drizzy telling us how he missed that all his former friends were Judases was very powerful to me personally.
It's too bad the public won't give this song a chance. But once we look back on the songs from this period from Drake and Kendrick impartially, this will have to be given its due.
