Rex Huppke laughs at them

I found Rex Huppke's column recently, and have been going through the archives. Here are some bangers:

Trump thinks Putin respects him. It's hilarious – and naive:

President Donald Trump is an easily glazed sucker who fancies himself a genius. That fact was clear as day when a hot mic at the White House caught him making a truly infantile claim.

In what Trump thought was a private conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, a mic caught him saying of Putin: “I think he wants to make a deal. I think he wants to make a deal for me. Do you understand? As crazy as it sounds.”

Yes, that does sound crazy. Because it is crazy. Trump, as always, is mistaking manipulation for respect. In the place of logic he has unquenchable narcissism. Putin, a former KGB agent, has Trump’s heart (and who knows what else) and can play him like a fiddle.

America needs a sharp leader. It elected a fussy child.

Trump thinks he's meeting Putin in Russia. That's concerning:

The man’s brain has turned to oatmeal.

Scotland trip shows Trump's mental decline in real time

Over the span of a weekend, the U.S. president’s addled brain raced about like a dull-witted Labrador attempting to outsmart squirrels. He went on lengthy diatribes about windmills. He ranted about the ungratefulness of starving children. He forayed into nonsensical conspiracy theories regarding the Jeffrey Epstein scandal consuming his administration, while laughably saying upon arriving in Scotland on July 25: “I’m not focused on conspiracy theories.”

Will ceasefire hold? Trump drops f bomb as truce wobbles:

Whether dropping real bombs, unsubstantiated peace bombs or grumpy f-bombs, our swiftly-coming-unglued president, who seems to think he can control global affairs via his unpopular social media site, Truth Social, has been on something of an emotional journey.

Why did Trump bomb Iran? Vance, Rubio can't give real reason:

... a frustrated Secretary of State Marco Rubio uttered three words that perfectly encapsulate President Trump, his Cabinet and the entire MAGA movement: “Forget about intelligence.”

They should put that on hats.

So we don’t want war, we want peace, but we’re at war with Iran’s nuclear program, but we’re not at war with Iran. That’s starting to sound a bit like, “I want to love you but you keep making me drop bombs on you, so it’s all your fault.”

If you elect liars, you're going to get lied to

Trump's miserable military parade overshadowed by protests:

Nice job, guys. Do you know how hurtful that was for a man who just wanted to have a cool birthday parade that would make him feel like a powerful dictator?

He looked like a kid who wanted a Nintendo Switch 2 for his birthday and instead got a desultory military parade.

For shame, Americans. President Trump has been working tirelessly to enrich himself and not do any of the things he said he would do, other than the be-cruel-to-immigrants thing, and this is how you repay him? By making his parade seem puny and sad while making your own grievances seem widespread and legitimate?
