Fascist criminals who deserve to be introduced to an Italian Esso station canopy
Cup of Coffee: January 27, 2026:
I guess this means that being an unpleasant and aggressive dipshit is all well and good until it starts costing the bigger fascists politically...
None of this earns anyone credit or anything – they're all still fascist criminals who deserve to be introduced to an Italian Esso station canopy...
I feel that in my gut as it is, because I've lived way too long to think that anything good comes easy, but there are concrete reasons to stay on guard right now too. They were best put by this sociologist whose words got nicely amplified on Bluesky last night:
The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”
That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
Or, as Churchill once said: "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
